My Ride K12

The Lincoln County R-III School District is working towards the implementation of a program that allows all parents to have access to a mobile app, My Ride K-12, for free on Android or iPhone that allows parents and guardians to see their child’s transportation information, including loading and unloading details, route number, stop time, and stop location.

The program was first piloted during the 2024-2025 school year and is in a second pilot phase in the spring of 2026. In both pilots, students who attend William Cappel, Claude Brown, and Main Street Elementary Schools will have a bus card attached to their backpack that will allow them to scan on and off the bus.

The goal of the current pilot is to complete internal training, with a goal of rolling the program out to all elementary families in the fall of 2026.

  • When boarding and exiting the bus, students will scan their ID with the card reader (a square object with a light) at the top of the stairs. This will register the scan, and the student’s name, grade, and picture will populate on the driver’s tablet. If the student is an eligible rider and has boarded the correct bus at the correct stop or exited at the correct stop, the student’s information will turn green on the tablet.

If the student is an eligible rider but boarded the incorrect bus or loaded or unloaded at the incorrect stop, the student's information will turn red. The tablet will show a red scan with an “X” if the student is not an eligible rider.  All information is captured and transmitted to the Transportation Department in near-real time via cellular service.

  • Schools will provide students with a way to secure their bus ID card to their backpack. We also ask parents to make every effort to help students maintain their student IDs.  If their ID is not present, the student must provide their first and last name to the bus driver so the driver can manually scan them on the bus. The same procedure will be followed in the afternoon if a student does not have their student ID.

  • The student ID card has a passive radio frequency identification (RFID) chip that enables students to scan on and off the bus. The cards do not have GPS capabilities and cannot track your child’s location. This card will only be used to scan on and off District school buses.

As students get on or off the bus, the scanner will read the RFID. It will log the time and location a student got on or off the bus. This measure has been put in place to increase the safety of students, particularly younger students, who may get on the wrong bus or off the bus at the wrong stop.

The card sends data to the District’s transportation department when a student scans on or off the bus.  The scan helps Lincoln County R-III School District facilitate a more efficient student ridership count and attendance process.  This, in turn, provides safety layers to help the District and parents know when and where students scan on and off the school bus.

District buses do have GPS, which allows the My Ride K12 program to give you updated information on when your child’s bus can be expected to arrive.

  • The card has the District logo, student’s name, and photo.

  • All cards will be provided by the transportation department.

A picture and student ID number will be needed to create the ID card for newly enrolled students, and may take up to two weeks to produce following enrollment.

For currently enrolled students, parents should reach out to their child’s school building office. The school office can request a replacement card.

The initial card and one replacement card are free.  Subsequent replacements cost $5.00.
